Clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing in Sarasota, Florida have been seeing some very good action for Snook and Redfish in both Sarasota and Tampa Bays. Both day and evening trips have been producing great numbers of both species and some very impressive sizes as well. This past week Snook to 34" and redfish to 28" have been caught and released by Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients. targeting these fish with both live and artificial baits has proven very productive.

Early in the morning and late in the afternoon have been prime times to target large Spotted Sea Trout on the shallow grass flats the line the west coast of Florida. Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing has been finding numerous large trout from 20" to 26" in southern Tampa Bay and in other areas there have been great numbers of trout from 15" to 20" in length.

On a recent trip along the Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay the Mackerel that had been thick a few days earlier where virtually non-existent so with a quick change of gear and tactics clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing got in on some fast paced Grouper and Snapper action along the main shipping channel. Over a two hour period Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients caught and released over 43 Grouper and Snapper. Both Gag and Red Grouper were encountered as well as Mangrove Snapper. Using frozen sardines and jumbo Shrimp on non-stainless steel circle hooks was extremely effective. (Please make sure that anyone targeting shallow water grouper and snapper in the Gulf of Mexico is aware of the new regulations. You can visit www.myfwc.com for more details.)

The Mackerel bite has slowed down considerably this past week but good action remains if you keep your eyes open for action on the surface around bait schools in the bays and around the beaches and inlets.

The Tarpon are Coming! The Tarpon are Coming! It is that time of year again and large Tarpon are beginning to show up around area passes and bridges. Within the next few weeks large schools of Tarpon over 100# will roam the inshore waters and beaches of southwest Florida from Egmont Key to Boca Grande and allow the best chances of the year for kayak anglers to target large Tarpon. There are still some good dates available with Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing to target large Tarpon in the Sarasota and Tampa areas.
