Sometimes you need to learn something new to make fishing a little more interesting for you. It is a rule that I enjoy each time I go fishing, but is not a rule that happens each time I am out there. Most of the time I learn a interesting tidbit about the waters, or the area, but learning a new fishing technique helps me become a better angler.

As many people know around Central Florida, Sebastian Inlet is boat-wreck waiting to happen. It is an inlet that has a huge tidal flow and the water coming in and out, makes life for any boater and nightmare. Fishing with Captain Al and Captain Randy taught us about a great redfish fishery that is unlike anything that I have ever done. You must have a confident captain, the right tackle and dollar crabs.

When the tide goes from incoming to outgoing, dollar crabs make their way into the ocean. They are swept into a heavy current, rise to the top and grab hold of grass floating into the blue waters of the ocean. Huge redfish sit on the bottom and the rise like trout in a stream and feed on the buffet line of crabs. It is a sight for your eyes to see a 50-60inch redfish, come from that bottom, with that golden-red body and white belly, scream towards to top of the rushing water and eat that dollar crab that isn't much bigger than 2inches wide. Having a dip net with a long extension is essential, as this is the bait that you need to have. A 4o circle hook, heavy rod, braided line with 30+ flurocarbon leader will help you get these large redfish to the boat fast without killing them. You must remember not to hold these fish upright, and get your picture and put her back into the water to continue to feed. Another helpful hint would be not to anchor up, floating to the bridge with the current is also very important.

I can't stress the importance of knowing the inlet and how fast the current is. You can get yourself, your anglers and boat in a lot of trouble. Be very careful in that inlet, it's a scary place!
