Friday's charter started at sunrise chumming white baits on a lush 4-5' grass flat. Loading up with scaled sardines 3-4" for both fishing and chumming and jumbo baits 5-6" for cut bait is essential. Chum chum and chum some more I did for 90 minutes! It was a real battle to say the least.

I picked up Rob and his 6 year old son Luke at O'Neill's and made a short run on slick calm waters. The action was slow at best catching only a few mackerel and sharks. We then ran to the beach looking for trout with no success.

We changed gears and ran into the Gulf searching for bait schools holding mackerel. We scored several speedsters on silver Clark spoons. I took Rob and Luke to the Skyway with little success. Back on the flats we found Mackerel, trout and sharks willing to play. Watching kids like Luke is a thrill to say the least. The questions and observations from a 6 year old were amazing!
