Hernando County, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report
Hernando Beach

Fishing madness is here in Hernando Beach, anglers are having a ball catching a wide variety of game fish from inshore to offshore waters. Inshore the red fish are invading the shallows from Aripeka to Chassahowitzka around the outside points, mangrove shore lines, and coves. Target red fish on a good incoming tide for best action, live bait is producing the best action. Live pin fish and green backs are the way to go, look for the mullet schools, structure, and current for good action. Lures are working for red fish as well, try a top water skitter walk in the trout color or white color, also a 1/16 ounce jig head with a gulp new penny shrimp bouncing slowly on the bottom will produce reds.

Trout are scattered from inshore to the deeper flats, start in 2 to 5 feet working grass flats and oyster bars with a top water skitter walk or mirr o dine 17MR if no action move deeper 6 to 10 feet and try a 1/4 ounce jig head with a lil john white or root beer soft plastic.

Cobia are everywhere from 2 feet of water to 30 feet of water, look around tri pods, crab traps, rocks, sting rays and turtles. Have a stout rod ready with a live bait cast in front of the fish and hold on cobia can be picky at times so have a good variety of baits and jigs ready to use.

Now the BIG BAD TARPON are here look in shallow water 3 to 8 feet. Get a early start so you can see the rolling poons cast in front of the fish on a angle try to keep the bait or lure in the tarpons eye sight, bait to use pin fish, green backs, finger mullet. Lures that work are mirr o dines XL's, top water skitter walks, white, purple, green, and pink jigs. If you get lucky and hook up remember to bow to the king.
