What more could you ask for? The weather and the fishing here in the Tampa Bay area has been awesome.

Our outside air temperature has dropped on occasion down into the 60's in the morning. With these mild fronts that have moved through the area, came cooler water temperatures.

This has turned the fishing on!

Redfish, snook, trout, spanish mackerel, kingfish and cobia have all been on the fishing agenda.

On some recent trips we have either caught, hooked or had our chance at them all. We even jumped a Tarpon in the 100 pound class on one of our trips.

Redfish and snook have been chewing for me on the high out going tides along mangroves and oyster bars.We have been using both live and artificial baits to catch them.

For steady action we have been targeting trout and mackerel on the deeper flats. Mackerel have also been just off of our beaches in good numbers and these toothy drag ripping speedsters have been in the 5 and 6 pound range. Live bait, silver spoons and jigs have been producing good numbers of both species.

We like to use our light action tackle for these and have occasionally hooked a kingfish and not able to stop them. Deploying a flat line with a rod and reel capable of holding about 300 yards of line has been done with them by passing that one to hit a bait on the lighter tackle.

Cobia are here and on two recent trips we had our shot at cobia in the 20 to 30 pound class. The only problem was they were not in the eating mood.

That is why they call it fishing and not catching.

I expect all of the above to be here until we have more consistent cool fronts come through driving the water temps down and out of the 70's.

If you are looking for a variety of action, whether it be in Tampa Bay or just off of our Gulf coast beaches now is the time to book a charter.
