The past week has brought beautiful summer like weather and warm water

temps which resulted in below average fishing for Feb.The water temps came

up to 73 degrees in three days and I am here to tell you these Florida fish

don't like a fast water temperature change no matter if it's rising or falling!!

We spent four days watching fish knock shiners out of the water and

mouth them until death then just swim a way.

TODAY THINGS CHANGED BIG TIME. We found the water temps at 63 degrees

this morning when I put the boat in the water and that is all we needed

for a great day of fishing.Uncle Bud, Uncle AL and nephew Steven are in town

from Penn for the Daytona 500 and joined me for a six hr trip.Last year these

guys fished with me and caught about 20 fish up to 10 pounds

and today was about the same except the two biggest fish went 8 and 8 1/2

pounds. We also had a couple giant fish pull of the hook when they jumped.

The fish seem to be sitting just off the spawning areas in a little deeper water

due to the higher water temps. We have a few fronts coming through the next

week and the weather is supposed to cool back down which will make for some

great Trophy Bass Fishing on the St Johns River.
