Bio: My fishing and guiding history I was born in Smithers, B.C. Canada on December 25, 1946. I grew up there and fished the whole northwest area with my Grandpa, Percival (Percy) Benjamin Emerson. He loved to fly fish. His favorite Trout fly was the Royal Coachman. He built a cabin on Babine Lake where I spent most of my summer school holidays fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Thanks to him, I am hooked on "Sportfishing" and I've come to love every aspect of it. My lifetime goals are to save the wild Salmon, Steelhead and Trout of the entire northwest area of British Columbia and establish a "Quality" sport fishing guiding industry. These are lofty goals but I will strive every day to achieve them. They are "my life long calling". I have been married for 39 years and have three daughters and seven grandchildren. I am the owner of Noel Gyger - Weekly Fishing Report and Guided Fishing Adventures of 4012 Best Street, Terrace, BC Canada V8G 5R8 Tel/Fax (250) 635-2568 Cell (250) 631-2678 E-mail noel@noelgyger.ca Website www.noelgyger.ca I started fishing the Terrace area in the 1970's. On May 24, 1983 I assisted my friend to land an 83-pound Chinook on the Kalum River. It was the river record. That experience changed my life and I started into the fish guiding industry and began exploring and fishing rivers by jet boat. I pioneered drift boats on the Kalum and Kitimat Rivers and taught many folks how to row them. I've owned a fishing lodge and guide business (Northwest Fishing Guides & Lodge) along with my wife from 1986 to 2001 when we sold it and retired but my love for the industry is just too great and after five years - I am back.

[Terrace,BC] Commentary: Winter is here! Snow on the trails and ice forming in the rivers and lakes. Steelhead are the main target fish now on a few very special rivers. Trout (Cutthroat and Rainbow) and Dolly Varden Char are always available in the rivers, streams and lakes
[Terrace,BC] Commentary: Weather is GREAT lets go fishing! Good runs of Steelhead are noted...plus good local Trout and Dolly Varden Char fishing. Early run of Chinook Salmon has started, mostly bound for the Kalum River.
[Terrace,BC] Despite the odds stacked against him a big, chrome bright fish porpoising downstream through three pools littered with log jams, and errant backing wrapping around his rod tip on three occasions Nicholas Dean Lodge client Gus Greer bested this 30 lb Spring Chinook last week while spey fishing on a Skeena River tributary. [Terrace,BC] Hi Noel, we had a great day fishing on the Kalum yesterday February 4th. With warm temperatures and sunny skies it was a good time to be on the river. In a few hours we had hooked several Steelhead and some nice Trout. I have attached a photo of Deanna Taylor with one of her Steelhead which was caught on a Gibbs Koho 35. Best Regards, Andrew Rushton of Kalum River Lodge
[Terrace,BC] Photo caption: Darren Bisson with a beautiful winter doe Steelhead. This is one of the nicest pics of a winter Steelhead I have ever seen. Darren is an AAG (Assistant Angling Guide) for Tracey Hittel of Kitimat Lodge. Obviously Darren is enjoying the off season going fishing for himself. Thank you for allowing me to use your pic. This is truly winter Steelheading at its BEST... Book now for 2012! http://www.noelgyger.ca

[Terrace,BC] Fishing for Sockeye, Chum, Steelhead, Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout and Dolly Varden Char using fly, spin and conventional gear has been fair. The Skeena River was up then down this week but is still clean enough to fish. Sockeye fishing is good if you know the how and where to fish for them.
[Terrace,BC] . This week guide reports came from Ron Wakita, Marc Girard, Mike Herzberg, Wes Owen, Dave Payjack, Gill McKean and Kevin Reid Thank you to all of the fishing guides who have sent reports and photos. It is very much appreciated!
[Terrace,BC] Fishing for Sockeye, Chum, Steelhead, Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout and Dolly Varden Char using fly, spin and conventional gear has been fair to poor depending where you are fishing. The Skeena River has been dropping all week and is extremely low but fairly clean.
[Terrace,BC] Chinook fishing has come to an end. Another fabulous fishing year with all mt pro guides.
[Terrace,BC] Fishing has been fantastic as usual. Come check us out. You won't be disapointed.
[Terrace,BC] Weather is good! And so is the fishing! A 62-pound Chinook (King) Salmon was caught this week.
[Terrace,BC] Fishing is good right now in the ocean for Winter Chinook. Slow in the rivers for trout.
[Terrace,BC] The weather has finally warmed up and we are back out Steelheading.
[Terrace,BC] As I am writing this summery the air temperature outside is -8 degrees C with high out flow wind (out of the north). We all know what this meansit is way too cold to go fishing. I think the wintering over Steelhead need a break from us anglers once an awhile. The Trout lakes should start freezing over now and the ice fishermen will start dusting off their gear. Weatherman says this cold snap may be with us for awhile.
[Terrace,BC] Fishing is very good right now for river Steelhead and ocean Chinook
[Terrace,BC] The weather is good. The fishing is good. Come on out and enjoy for yourself.
[Terrace,BC] Good fishing right now. As long as the weather holds we should be OK. Coho closes Oct 31 but Steelhead continues all winter.
