The monster snook were holding deep in the mangrove roots. We could hear them splashing around and no way to get to them. It was windy enough that the bait fish were in the roots and so were the Snookzillas'. We went out onto the flats and started casting to Crevalle Jacks. What a hoot on light tackle and a trip saver. CJ's fight like crazy and never quit. They are a very hardy game fish offering blistering runs and shoulder jerking body shakes. Many fisherman consider the jack family to be a junk fish or nuisnce fish and that's ok with me. On a day that just did not offer what we wanted, we turned to Mr. Crevalle Jack for some fun and we were not disapointed. Next onto the stage came the shark parade. First the bonnett head heads and then the black tips. We would have gotten the sharks closer in range had we diced a jack and strung it off the bow but as it was we were kept busy chasing and fighting sharks and jacks all day. We started the day with some nice sea trout of the rocks on the way to the flats. They were very tasty for dinner. If any of you are considering a new or used flats boat and make frequent runs in 2 to 3's, you might want to take a look at the Hewes Redfisher 18. I have had mine in 4's and she handles very nicely and stays drys. Yesterday was no exception. I put an Evinrude ETEC 150HO on my new Hewes and I must say I am very impressed by the performance. Great on fuel, fantastic hole shots and very quiet. Hey no smell either. I purchased the Redfisher without the motor and put the Bob's Machine Shop jack plate and ETEC on myself. Very nice rigg!

It was just to windy yesterday to flyfish and couldn't get to the snook deeeeep into the mangroves so we got all jacked up and had a great time. If you want to try it drop me an email or vist my website to book a charter.

Thanks for reading and talk to you soon.

Capt. Pat
