Calcasieu River "The Calcasieu has been a roller coaster this year as for as the water level and clarity is concerned" says Travis Merritt who fishes the river on a regular basis as well as host bass tournaments there on a regular basis. Currently, the river is about normal level and clear in some areas but other areas are stained.

Topwater baits such as Chug Bug in a bullfrog pattern fished around tree tops have caught quality fish. Merritt also suggest working the area around the saltwater barrier using shallow shad/chartreuse crankbaits and spinnerbaits when tide/current is present.
