Calcasieu River

CALCASIEU RIVER ABT SERIES:

Winners again this week were Robert Weemes and David Rabalais with 8.24 pounds while Shane Cormier finished second with 6.50 and the team of Chris Louviere and John Louviere- claimed third with 5.73. Chuck Willis won the Fontenot/ Fontenot Big Bass with a big river bass of 5.44.

The winners report catching fish their fish flipping jigs and soft plastics around cuts with running water. Rabalais said their fishing really turned on when the water started moving. Robert Weemes caught an owl on a spinnerbait. The owl swooped down from a tree and grabbed the spinnerbait. It took the pair a little while to remove the hook from the owls legs and let it go. The owl flew right back up to the tree where it was before and continued to watch them fish.

FISHING REPORT:BASS

"The river is high and heavy stained to muddy but the fishing can be great under these conditions" say tournament angler, Travis Merritt. The fish will be using the current to feed so this gangs them up around cuts and points. Crankbaits are tough to beat when fishing current as are spinnerbaits, jigs and Texas rigs.
