CALCASIEU RIVER "The Calcasieu River is still doing real well" says local tournament angler, Travis Merritt. Crankbaits are a hot bait right now as fall patterns are in place with bass gorging on baitfish. If you can find current, you can catch fish...lots of fish. The river is in perfect shape for both level and clarity, according to Merritt.

He also suggest jigs for putting bigger fish in the boat and recommends a 3/8 ounce black/blue jig with Berkley's Chigger Craw as the trailer and cuts off about 1 inch of C. Craw before attaching it to his jig. He then works the jig in cuts and drains around deeper brush and downed trees.
