Dennis, Sabrina, Kristina and Gabrielle from New Orleans chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep-sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain Zsak and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, 1.8 miles from shore, we were trolling off the first reef in Fort Lauderdale in 100 feet of water with 4 surface lures and 2 deep water planner lines with a spoon and a sea witch.

We started getting action as soon as we had all the lines in the water.  The 1st fish was a nice Kingfish that Dennis caught on the deep planner line with a purple lure.   We were working a school of fish in 145 feet of water, and I continued to keep the baits in the bite for as long as we could.  This means that we were circling the fish and maximizing the bite while it was on, and it was working, bringing in 2 at a time.  We ended up catching a limit of 8 Kingfish and 2 Bonitas.

Next, we decided to try for a Shark.  I rigged one of the Kingfish that we caught and sent down a couple of Shark baits.  With the light north current, the blood and oil coming out of the baits worked its way down the reef.  A Shark or any other kind of fish would pick up the sent.  It didn't take long before the rod bent over, and we had a big Shark on, pulling drag and ripping the line off the reel.  The guys starting fighting the Shark out of the main fighting chair.  After big runs and pulling drag, we caught the Shark, which turned out to be a Bull Shark.  Carefully reaching down and removing a hook, we cut her free, but not before getting a bunch of photos.

After an excellent day of fishing, it was time to head back to the dock.  The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
