The Walters family – Chris, Kati, Alex and Abigail – from Atlanta, Georgia chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  We had clear skies and warm weather, with most of the day at a high 89 degree; fortunately the summer heat is coming to an end and fall is beginning to appear.  The Walters were looking for good catch and action, which is what we set out to accomplish today.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  We started out trolling with two plainers down – one #6 and the other #8 – both with sea witches in front of double hooked Bonito strips.  For surface baits we went with four Ballyhoos

We started getting bites early on the trip, catching Kingfish and Cero Mackerel.  Both plainers were getting bites while the Walters family took turns catching and wiring in the fish.  I headed to the south and continued heading south of Fort Lauderdale for about five miles, getting bites anywhere from 110 ft. of water out to 135 ft. of water.

We ended the trip catching a total of 12 Kingfish and 2 Cero Mackerel.  Five of the Kingfish were under sized and we, therefore, released them.  The legal size limit is 24" to the fork of the tail.  Lastly, we missed another few bites and never saw what species they were.

It was time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
