Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Bryan Bundesen, along with his sons, Darian and Thomas, from Ohio chartered an 8 hour trip from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. The Bundesen's were vacationing in South Florida and celebrating a high school graduation along with Father's Day. While the guys were down in the Keys, they completed their open water Scuba Certification – Congratulations on getting your certification.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits, we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. The anglers took turns and brought in three Kingfish and a Bonito.

From there the anglers wanted to do some wreck fishing, so we headed out to 200 ft. of water and fished over one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale. We used as baits live Blue Runner, and had a couple of hits and misses, but on the third try, Darian caught a 45 lb. Amberjack – What a fight. Great job on your fish, Darian.

Next, we decided to target some Mahi Mahi's, so we headed out to the east of

Fort Lauderdale in search of a weed line or any type of debris floating. We put out 4 surface baits and one plainer rod with a teaser. The anglers took turns reeling in a total of five Mahi Mahi's – three were under 10 lbs., one was 18 lbs. and one was 30 lbs., 58" long.

Lastly, we tried Snapper fishing and came inshore to 100 ft. of water. Using spinner fishing tackle and cut Bonito as bait, we ended up catching some Yellow Tail Snappers and a really nice Mutton Snapper.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV. At the dock, our mate, David, fillet the fish for tonight's dinner.
