Mike and Michelle Sloan from Massachusetts chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started the morning trolling the reef with 4 surface Ballyhoo baits and two deep planner lines with a sea witch and a 3 ½ drone spoon.  I trolled the reef north of Fort Lauderdale going over the reef, wrecks and structures.  Our first bite was on the long planner.  Mike was the angler, and he did a good job reeling in the Kingfish, weighing approximately 6 lbs.  Once the planner hit the rod tip, Mike started wiring the long trace (85-90 ft.).  He brought the Kingfish to the transom of the boat, gaffed the fish and put it in the fish box.

We decided to do some kite fishing, so we sent out two kites with 2 Goggle Eyes on each kite for baits.  We were approaching a sunken wreck when the long kite bait started freaking out - a nice Mahi approached the bait and ate it.  Mike set the hook and started fighting the Mahi.  He got the fish up to the boat, and our mate, Rob, gaffed the Mahi and put him in the fish box.

Next, we sent a live bait down on a wreck hoping for a Grouper, but we had no luck.  So we went back to sending out baits, and after positioning up-current of the wreck, we got another Mahi up in the spread chasing the bait. The Mahi ate the bait, was hooked up and Mike started fighting the fish.  He brought the Mahi to the side of the boat, gaffed him and put the Mahi in the fish box.

It was now time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  At the dock, our mate filet out the fish for dinner that night.
