Heavy rains from storm could greatly change current river conditions. "The Calcasieu has been hit or miss the last month or so and continues on this trend." says river angler, Travis Merritt. At this writing, the river is lower than it has been all year but the main river from the split to Ward 8 is heavy stained.

Crankbaits fished along drop offs and around cuts and points have been doing real well for the last couple of weeks. Buzzbaits are a great choice for catching better fish. Some anglers report excellent catches on topwater plugs such as Chug Bug, Frenzy Poppers and Pop R.

Local tournament anglers have done well fishing the cuts off the main river in Ward 8 and 171 Bridge area.
