Wow, what a beautiful night on the water. Last night I had the Morrie Rubin charter out on the water. After a slightly late start due to the afternoon rush hour here in Miami we had a beautiful ride out. No sooner did I finish putting the 5th rod out when the close baloon set at 150 gets slammed rips off 50yds and pulls the hook, strike 1! WHile I am setting the baloon back out the tip rod gets slammed and after I hook Morrie up he has the fish to the boat in a few short minutes (about 47-50"). As I grabbed the leader the fish went airborn and shook the hook...1/2. Before I could get the tip rod back out the long baloon pulls a few feet then nothing. Its now 9 and we reset the drift. Again right after setting up we had a hit on the tip rod but the fish never came back to finish the squid off! and at 10 we had our last bite on the long bait and came tight on a frisky fish. Morrie got on the rod again and settled in for a nice 20 minute fight with a stubby 59" fish. After we put this one in the boat he asked we head for home as he had enough for the night! All in all, 2/4 with a few other misses! No bait to speak of and our bites came all over the place from 50'-300'

Bio: Capt. Justin Nighan started fishing earlier than most. Aboard his parents 40' Sportfisherman, Justin started sailing to the Canyons off the New Jersey coast when he was just a few months old. Fishing was his parent's passion for most of his childhood and they took him on every trip. By the age of 16 Justin has already logged almost 500 trips to the NE Canyons and started running his father's boat, the "Sunny Skies". At 18 years old Justin packed up and headed south to attend the U of Miami during which he took part time jobs as a mate/captain and learned what South Florida sportfishing is all about. After receiving his B.S. in Biology (2002) he had a tough decision to make, either to pursuer his true passion, fishing, or to enter the 9-5 world. His choice was easily made and he promptly joined the Canyon Runner Charter fishing crew as a full time mate. Throughout the next 3+ years he fished the NE canyons during the summer, producing over 1000 tuna each season, and fishing South Florida in the winter.
