Little Lady - Big Fish

By: Capt. Hap Farrell

I take Chris Ewen and his daughter Emily fishing a number of times during the summer. It is an on going joke that Emily is a good luck charm because they always do well when she comes a long. However, Emily comes all the time. Could it be that Emily is just a good angler? At the age of 12 she was fighting fish standing up using a gimbal belt.

We fish in a number of area on Cape Cod Bay and use a number of methods also. Emily really enjoys using the light tackle I have to offer. She's taken 15 pound bluefish on six pound test line and some big bass on 18 pound test lead core line. In fact, last year, she landed her biggest bass, 41 pounds, at that time while tubing on Billingsgate Shoals (First Picture). This season she out did that by landing a nice fish (second photo) while fishing the deep water off the shoals with the same tackle. Emily is now 14 years old and is waiting for the 50 fish.
