CALCASIEU RIVER The main river section between Ward 8 and West fork is starting to finally clear and fishing is getting better on the main river, reports tournament angler Travis Merritt. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits fished around points and cuts are proven fish-catching tactics on The Calcasieu. Flipping creature baits (Power Hawgs and Brush Hogs) as well as jigs around trees and brush consistently catch quality fish.

THE SABINE RIVER The Sabine River has slowed down somewhat since last week from a numbers standpoint but fishing has still been good. The numbers went from 40-60 bass a day to 15-25 on most trips. "The quality of the fish being caught is very good," states Merritt, and the river level is still slightly high but the water clarity is perfect. Water levels have been lower most weekends as the generating at Toledo Bend Dam, which feeds the Sabine River, is Monday - Friday afternoons.
