Fishing Report 6/26/07

This past week i had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Bob Calorico from Miami. Bob is an avid backcountry fisherman. We fished southern Biscayne Bay in search of Mr. Tarpon and Snook. Bob enjoys catching most of his fish with artificial top water presentation. Our bait consisted of top water plugs such as Storm Saltwater Chug Bug. The afternoon was spent in a undisclosed location catching Tarpon. These Tarpon are very skidish and after loosing a few the bite did die off. Elswhere offshore the Mahi-Mahi are still running in good numbers. On the reef and wrecks there has been a good bite of Mutton Snapper. Generally we catch Mutton Snapper using 30 foot 60lb leaders with 5/0 - 7/0 Live bait hooks. If live bait is not availble we will use ballyhoo plugs. Plenty on Yellowtail Snapper are also being caught on the reefs, with a few nice Mangrove Snappers. I have not heard anything about the Mangrove spawn but i suspect that after the next full moon it will be going off. Till next time.
