Matthew and Julie Goldwasser, their children, Sue and Ari, and the grandparents all from Massachusetts chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.   As Matt boarded the boat with his wife, children and parents, I asked him what type of fish they would be interested in catching.  They wanted to catch eating fish, preferably Mahi Mahi.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started trolling with two planners with sea witches on both planners in front of a double hooked Bonito strips, along with four surface baits.  For the past couple of days there was one wreck south of Fort Lauderdale in 150 ft. of water that has been holding bait fish.  In return, the predators were there feeding on these bait fish.

As we headed towards the wreck, the Goldwasser family was enjoying the blue skies and great Fort Lauderdale weather.  As we got close to the wreck, one of our planner rods tripped with a swing and a miss.  Then, the other planner rod tripped – we got lucky with this one – fish on.  Matt reeled in the first fish which was an 8 lb. Kingfish.  We continued trolling around the wreck catching a couple of Barracudas and an Amberjack.

From there I headed towards another wreck which was close by and the depth recorded marked a lot of bait fish there.  Both children participated in reeling in their fishes – a Kingfish and a good size Barracuda.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale with a total of four Kingfish, two Barracudas, one Amberjack and two Bonitos.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  At the dock, our mate, Dave, filet out the fish for the family to take home for dinner.  No Mahi Mahi, but still good fresh fish for dinner.
