The pursuit of mahi is a common South Florida theme for many.  We will spend hundreds in fuel, ice, and tackle to sometimes chase down fish less than 5 pounds.  But that is the name of the game and we love that any given day that 5 pound fish, just may be pushing 50 pounds when she finds your bait.

On our recent trip, we headed South to catch bait as well as buy bait from our local live bait fisherman "Fish Man Joe".  He loaded us up on chummer size pilchards and we caught some more threadfins.

As we cleared the horizon and headed offshore, we were greeted with flat calm seas.  I knew it was going to be a good day.   We ran until we found true signs of fish, not stopping on small weed patches, although they can hold fish.

All of a sudden we started seeing flying fish chased out of the water and we knew this was the area.  It didn't take long until we found a patch that was loaded with fish.  We had a blast catching about a dozen or so fish and kept about half that for the table.

We headed back in about 10:30 and started cleaning fish before the afternoon thunderstorms showed up.

Tight Lines,

Captain Mike
