    [Lake Fork] Fishing staging areas with lipless crank and spinner baits. Well, this week was a tough one for the fisherman. The air temps and strong winds have kept even the most avid fisherman on the trailer. The water temp has still held at the 44 to 49 degree mark. The fish are moving to the staging areas. This will be the pattern till the spawn starts. The fish will pull up on points and secondary points and as the water starts to move into the 50's they will scatter out over the flats and backs of the coves.

    [Lake Fork] Well, it won't be long, spring is just around the corner. Our next warmup, look for the fishing to get really good. Yesterday we fished a half day (morning) and caught fish up to seven pounds. The lake is about two feet low and semi-clear. Right now I am fishing the hydrilla in about 2-8 foot of water.

    [Lake Fairfield] Wind was terrible but we fished protected North banks and caught a few hogs. 4 Bass were boated today but 3 were over 5 lbs. with the biggest going over 6 lbs. The smallest was 3.5 lbs. All were caught on the Nichols Creature bait a similar type bait to a baby brush hog.Color was Watermelon Red with Tails slightly dipped in Chartruse.

    [Lake Conroe] Many fishermen have been finding dead and dying fish in the Lake for several weeks. The fish have been identified as tilapia. I contacted Mark A.Webb, District Supervisor, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Bryan Inland Fisheries Office and he advised me that the fish were “blue tilapia” an illegally introduced exotic species that do not withstand cold temperatures.

    [Lake Fork] Well, the warm weather we had earlier in the week was just GREAT. But the recent cold snap has brought us back to reality. The water temp has been around 43 to 46. It is according to where you are at the time. The North end and major creeks are still muddy to off color. For some reason the past week the Sabine opened a gate and let water out for a couple of days. We are now 2 foot low.

    [Toldeo Bend] The fishing is starting to bust wide open. We've been fishing mostly for White Bass in the river and waiting for the main lake to settle down from all the fresh water and cold temperatures. Last week we were catching a lot of Whites in the flooded sloughs on Road Runners and Rattle traps but the river started falling fast and moved them into the river proper.

    [Lake Fork] Well, the winter blast is still on here at Lake Fork. The lake Is steadily inching up. BUT!!! The water temp is going down. 43 to 46 is the range you will be working with if you come down this weekend. This weekend is calling for another cold blast of artic air this weekend. I would recommend lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jigging spoons out deep.

The Crappie have scattered from the main lakeriver channel locations. The Blacks have "lockjaw" and the Whites are starting to move into the main river proper beginning their annual“river run”.

    [Orlando] Bass fishing, even with the cold front here, is still doing good on Butler Chain. This is the time of year to catch some serious bass on Butler, and as Rod knows, not having caught a 10 pound bass until yesterday, and having a shot at 3 of them in 2 days, this chain does hold some very good action, as he said “ that was exciting seeing her do all that” as the big gal attacked his bait.

    [Lake Allatoona] You can catch a big fish free lining big baits early in the morning. And the main points around the dam has been best for big fish. You want get a lot of bites but most will come from big fish. Trollers should be pulling Mack Farr umbrella rigs in the river channels during mid day. In the morning try pulling your rigs in water less then 20 feet deep and this includes shallow humps out in open water.

    [Lake Fork] Fishing main lake points and deep humps for bass and crappie. Well, I got some good news. As of yesterday the lake was 1'9” low and water is still coming in. With the rain coming this weekend it may fill the lake. The back of the major creeks are muddy and cold. Water was 41 to 44 in Birch and 44 to 47 on the main lake.

    [Lake Fairfield] Fishing was tough today but after I scaled down to 4 inch worms and worked lighter lines caught about 20 bass up to 4.3 lbs. The bite is tough right now with Bass being very finicky due to the water changes but they can be caught. Use finesse worms like 4 inch watermelons rigged on lighter lines to have a great day. Just down size everything and you can get bit.

    [Lake Allatoona] Line sides fishing is good and not much has change from last week. The lake is stain from one end to the other. Finding clear water is the ticket. Free lines and planner boards in the morning and late afternoon and then down lines in the middle of the day. As the water starts to clear fishing should get better.
