We are in prime hurricane season and Gustav has our attention. I am still cleaning up trees from Hurricane Rita 3 years ago so we are fishing with part of our efforts involved in preparing for storm.

Most of our bigger bass are coming from deep structure on The Bend as the dog days of summer are here....we have had several days this week with day time temps over 100. Schooling bass in the morning are also part of the picture.

Winds have been so high for so long that I have been starting recent trips with hat on backwards. Recently I actually had a dip net become airborn from a wind gust of over 30 knots. Why was I fishing in such conditions? Lately, these conditions have been daily...so you fish. Yes, we have been catching fish but are adapting with changing presentations.

Fishing pressure has been high...fishermen are finding gas money some where....we won't pursue that subject any further. A good presentation of lures is vital if anglers are to get a consistent bite in such heavily fished water.

Somehow we managed to survive the week and caught bass even with 30 mph winds three days in a row. Numerous times I had to wrap my leg around the front butt seat to keep wind from pushing me in the lake. Yo gotta love it!
