Lipless Crank and Spinner Baits In Staging Areas by Jim Reaneau (2/15/2007)
[Lake Fork,TX] Fishing staging areas with lipless crank and spinner baits. Well, this week was a tough one for the fisherman. The air temps and strong winds have kept even the most avid fisherman on the trailer. The water temp has still held at the 44 to 49 degree mark. The fish are moving to the staging areas. This will be the pattern till the spawn starts. The fish will pull up on points and secondary points and as the water starts to move into the 50's they will scatter out over the flats and backs of the coves.

Fish Are Not Happy With The Cold Weather by John Gosselink (2/10/2007)
[Lake Conroe,TX] Many fishermen have been finding dead and dying fish in the Lake for several weeks. The fish have been identified as tilapia. I contacted Mark A.Webb, District Supervisor, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Bryan Inland Fisheries Office and he advised me that the fish were “blue tilapia” an illegally introduced exotic species that do not withstand cold temperatures.

Recent Cold Snap On Lake Fork by Jim Reaneau (2/09/2007)
[Lake Fork,TX] Well, the warm weather we had earlier in the week was just GREAT. But the recent cold snap has brought us back to reality. The water temp has been around 43 to 46. It is according to where you are at the time. The North end and major creeks are still muddy to off color. For some reason the past week the Sabine opened a gate and let water out for a couple of days. We are now 2 foot low.

White Bass Fishing On Road Runners and Rattle Traps by Greg Crafts (2/07/2007)
[Toldeo Bend,TX] The fishing is starting to bust wide open. We've been fishing mostly for White Bass in the river and waiting for the main lake to settle down from all the fresh water and cold temperatures. Last week we were catching a lot of Whites in the flooded sloughs on Road Runners and Rattle traps but the river started falling fast and moved them into the river proper.

The water temp is going down. 43 to 46 is the range you will be working with if you come down this weekend. This weekend is calling for another cold blast of artic air this weekend. I would recommend lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jigging spoons out deep.

Catch and Release Kills Stripers! by Jay Jackson (2/01/2007)
[Lake Texoma,TX] Catch and Release kills an estimated 1.3 million stripers a year. I am asked many times a year “when we catch our limit of stripers are we done”, I have always tried to explain the reasons why we shouldn't, and most people understand and agree that we have to protect the fish population not only for my livelihood but for our children and their children to come.

Just down size everything and you can get bit.
