[Lake Fork] Working main lake Points and deep humps and roadbeds. Well, the deep freeze was on here at Lake Fork this week. The air temps never got above freezing several days in a row. The water temp fell to the mid to low 40's.

[Orlando] Bass have been more active this past week and have been also showing up on the beds. Butler Chain as of late has been fishing pretty good, on the water Saturday saw a lot of boats doing the old run and gun in search for bass, and plenty were caught. Everything from spinner baits to 10 inch worms caught some very good quality bass with just over 16 pounds taking the prize at the end of the day.

The lake level is still down 8ft but as I write this report we are getting rain and the lake is rising. We need to thank Texas Parks and Wildlife folks for having the silt removed from the Jordan Park ramp this week so that all the ramps are in good shape for launching.

[Lake Fork] Well, the weather has been warm this week. But the weekend stands to show us that winter is still here. I hope the rain will be plentiful for all. The wind this week was a factor in where you fished. The main lake was almost off limits. There is still a lot of stained water in the backs of some creeks. I have been working points and half way back in coves.

[Wilson Lake] Trophy, smallmouth bass. In Alabama, that's a smallmouth bass exceeding five pounds. Wilson Lake has got loads of 5 pound plus smallies and now is the time of year to fish for them. From a period, starting in mid January until mid March, is acclaimed to be the best time of the entire year for having your best chance at fooling a real, trophy sized, smallmouth bass.

So like any lake that is drawn down during winter, boat navigation is hazardous, especially for first timers to Wheeler Lake, the second largest man made impoundment in Alabama.

[Orlando] Fishing on the Butler Chain has been fair with the recent cold front. The water temp is between 66 and 67 degrees. There are alot of spawning beds in every lake on the chain. The fish moved off the beds yesterday after the BIG drop in water temp, but by this afternoon they were already moving back up.

[Jordan Lake] Winter officially got underway in Alabama the first week of December, 2006. However you would still think it was late Fall if you were fishing the second week of January. The New Year came in with a bang on the water as well, with water temps reaching 60 degrees!

[Melbourne] Bass are shallow and eating. They are in the South end of the Farm and all over Garcia. Bass at Stick Marsh and Farm 13 are in the shallows and acting like they are spawning. Beds are not visible. This is the normal spawning condition. Bass are taking the shiners deliberately and slowly. The bass are also shying away from action lures like spinner baits and other fast moving baits and settling for slower speed baits like Tiki Sticks and soft plastics rigged Texas or Carolina style.

[Guntersville Lake] Bass fishing was slow, but the Crappie sure made up for it. This report is for last Thursday and I'm just now getting around to posting it because I have been working the Nashville Fishing & Turkey Expo. It was nice to see some old faces from the BFHP and meet some new ones. It was a wonderful show and the turnout was one of the largest I can ever remember.

[Caddo Lake] The lake is back to normal levels with the recent rains at 168.75 as of today, normal pool is 168.50. Water temps are ranging from 48-54 degrees and parts of the lake are very muddy while other parts are extremely clear. Most of the north bank areas on the Texas side are clear while more of your open areas are muddy. Most of Jeems Bayou is clear to stained.

[Orlando] Schooling action is back on Johns Lake and good solid bass being caught. The past week I have had several days out on Johns Lake, some scouting trips and some with clients. The waters have held a fairly steady temperature in the mid to upper 60's. Bass overall have been hitting good, with one day of having to plug away hard for our catch, as the front rolled thru.

[Weiss Lake] The Largmouth are being caught on several patterns. Gravel and rocky main points are producing some decent catches using Carolina Rigs, river channel ledges in the lower end of the lake are producing fish too. Deeper rocky banks and rip rap with 6 feet of water or more is also producing well on crank baits and jigs.

[Lake Allatoona] Good. For stripers, big baits fished on planer boards have been producing some good-sized stripers and good numbers, . "I'm using big gizzards or big trout, and I'm back in the creeks and in the rivers. Little River, the mouth of the Etowah in the Delta have been producing best for me.

I only hope the lake will fill up before the spring. This week the water temp was in the low 50's. The crappie were biting like crazy. 36 to 41 foot was the magic depth. Small jigs and minnows have been the best baits. Work the baits slowly

[Melbourne] The catching was tough on the 2nd and Excellent on the 3rd. The bass wanted larger wild shiners. Joe Dove landed several five pounders, two six pounders, one 6.75 pounder, a ten pounder and an eleven pounder.

[Lake Texoma] The striper fishing is great this time of year. We departed the mairna at 9:00am and the day started off a little cool with the 10 mile run we had to make to get to the fish but warmed up as the morning went on. I had a father and two sons (age 9 & 12)on the trip they had a blast catching their 30 fish limit.

[Toldeo Bend] The rising water has slowed the Crappie fishing down but the lake is clearing fast since no water is being released and once things settle down, the bite should pick up. Prior to the rise, there is no telling how many Crappie were put into ice chests the past two months

[Weiss Lake] Some of the year's biggest largemouth bass (many exceeding ten pounds) are taken during the cold, winter months of January and February on this huge, sprawled out lake. Weiss Lake is the first of six man made impoundment's situated on the upper Coosa River System, running south from northeast Alabama to lower Alabama.

[Tarpon Springs] The Grouper fishing has been HOT and FAST. There has been an average of 75 to 100 fish caught, with an average of 10 keepers per trip. The Keeper Grouper are running 8 to 15 pounds, occationally a 20 or 30 pounder caught.

[Point Pleasant] We had two offshore seabass trips this past weekend. The first trip we had many limits of jumbo seabass and a few ling. There were a couple of fish that were close for the pool so the two pool contenders decided to weigh their fish at our tackle shop, Fishermen's Supply, when we got back to the dock.

[Lake Oconee] Largemouth bass fishing is slow to bite due to cold weather. Use a 1/4 ounce Strike King jig in the black and blue or black and chartreuse with a Zoom Super chunk in watermelon seed color, which will slow the baits decent. Fish the bait around and under docks with a water depth in the 6 to 10 ft range.

[Lake Conroe] Lake Conroe December Fishing Report With Christmas just around the corner, traffic on the Lake has been very light. Cloudy days with lots of fog and a little shower every now and then has kept most of the fishermen home; but, the fishing has been great. The Lake is just below pool and there is plenty of good fishing water on all the shorelines.

[Lake Jackson] Bass fishing is fair. This lake has a number of stumps in it and these old stumps are winter bass hideouts. With the lake down some, these stumps just inches under the water. Work the south lake early from the mouth of the Tussahaw Creek to the dam.

[Lake Seminole] Largemouth bass fishing has been fair and there are some fish shallow in the creeks and they are stuck heavily under the grass beds. Zoom Bush Hogs on a pegged Texas rig may work on the grass beds but be sure to use a heavy weight to get though the grass.

[Lake Allatoona] Line sides fishing is still good for big fish this week and the numbers are starting to pick up. We aren't loading the boat, but if you fish hard you can catch 10-15 on any given day. Mid-lake seems to be the best. There is still fish on the south end of the lake. But there is a lot of people fishing for them down there.
