Winter Fishing on Lake Martin by
Reed Montgomery
(2006-11-21 12:30:34)
[Lake Martin] Finding a Lake to fish this winter that is similar to fishing Lake Martin would be difficult. It is lake unlike any lake in Alabama. At times it can throw a curve ball at the best angler around and succeed in striking him out. But there are times, like during winter, when a persistent angler can have high hopes of loading the boat or successfully succeed in fooling one of the years biggest spotted bass or largemouth bass.

[Jones Bluff Lake] Jones Bluff Lake situated near the mid Alabama capital of Montgomery, is not fished that much during the winter months. Other Alabama Lakes draw more interest from bass anglers looking for that trophy bass, or anglers just looking for some consistent action to help warm them up when its cold this winter.

[Bankhead Lake] I can remember many cold, winter days while fishing for bass on Bankhead Lake as a young man. The reason being is because of so many bass we caught! At times we had as many as 50 bass in a day's time while fishing from shallow to deep water around wood cover, rocks and aquatic weeds on this cover filled Warrior River Lake, Impounded in 1916.

Fishing Jigs and Weightless Baits In Lake Fork by
Jim Reaneau

[Lake Fork] Fishing Jigs and weightless baits in shallow and deep water. The fishing has really been unstable. Patterns have changed quickly. The weather has done the same. We still have not had rain enough to do any good for the lake. The lake is still falling and is about 5.5 low. This time of year with all the fronts coming down the patterns will change daily or during the day.

[Lake Erie] Perch anglers fishing the Ohio waters of Lake Erie should also be pleased with this year's catches. Fish from a good 2001 hatch will range from 9-12 inches. Anglers should expect to catch large numbers of perch from an exceptionally strong hatch in 2003.

[Lake Allatoona] Line-sides fishing is GOOD Fishing is the same this week as last. Change nothing. The lake is looking good right now. Clear water and no smell and very few air pockets. This means the end of the turn over. And time to get back on the water. I'm starting to boat good numbers of fish. With most of them being hybrid and spots. With a few stripers mixed in.

[Caddo Lake] Fall time bass fishing at its finest on the beautiful and historic Caddo Lake. Bass fishing is great right now. With the cooler water temps the bass are just now beginning their fall feeding frenzy and can be caught on a variety of lures from topwaters to Texas rigged worms. The bass bite has gotten better over the last week and will only get better over the next days and weeks to come.

[Lake Okeechobee] Clewiston-----The wind the past week has been relentless on th lake Okeechobee, with north and east winds blowing up to twenty five miles and hour the lake has become muddy on most of the south end of Okeechobee. The West Wall has remained fishable but it too has become dirty from the wind, We did ok on wild shiners in this area most of the week with the inside area being the most productive.

Lake Toho Bassin Action Great Despite High Winds by
Tim Fey
(2006-11-03 16:08:02)
[Orlando] Lake Toho Bassin action was great today, despite predicted high winds the bass still played well. Today we had a 4 hour run out on Lake Toho. Water temperature started out at a cool 72 degrees to start the day, and finished the day at 72. Finally cooler consistent water temps to help get the bass active and feeding up. This trip was part of a 10 boat deal and everyone had high hopes the winds would hold off till we were finished up.

(2006-11-03 06:20:11)
[Lake Fork] Winter fishing on Lake Fork with spoons and tail spinners. Main lake points and humps have been good starting areas. The grass has held some fish early with top water and spinner baits. The Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worm and Zig Zag and the Wave Tiki Stick have been good fished weightless and wacky style over and around grass. The weekend calls for clear on Saturday and rain Sunday. But the way things have gone it will probably miss us again.

Largemouth Bass Fishing Coosa River Report by
Mark Collins
(2006-11-01 21:54:48)
[Weiss Lake] Bass fishing is good The Largemouth are being caught on several patterns. Gravel and rocky secondary points are producing well using crankbaits and Rat L Traps. Deeper rocky banks and rip rap with 6 feet of water or more is also producing well. The Spotted Bass are still out on the deeper channel ledges and points. Stroking a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce stanley jig in a crawfish pattern with a Zoom pumpkin seed chunk trailer is working great, crank baits and carolina rigs are working well also.

Inshore Fishing Palm Beach & Jupiter FL by
Craig Korczynski

[Palm Beach] Mullet run makes for hot inshore action. Happy Halloween. Fall is here along with the mullet run which has been awesome to say the least. The baits are everywhere you look and so are the Snook. The Snook bite has been really strong and has produced some very nice fish. Most of the Snook average in size 22 to 34 with some over the slot fish mixed in. The Snook are hanging on dock pilings, bridges and sea walls crashing the pods of mullet that swim past. After inspecting many of the Snook we have caught, you can see there lips are raw and shredded from hitting mullet along the barnacle-incrusted sea walls.

Butler Chain Bassin Action Picking Up With Cooler Temps by
Tim Fey
(2006-10-28 17:33:34)
[Orlando] Butler Chain bassin action is picking up nicely with cooler water temps. Thursday we were out on Butler Chain with David for what turned out to be some tough fishing. From bluebird skies to party cloudy, and little to no breeze at times, the bass definitely did not want to play as they had in days past. We had started out on Lake Chase, working a deep water drop off area for a few with no luck.

[Lake Fork] Working grass and creeks with soft plastic worms. Flipping jigs along timbeed creek channels. Well, the fishing has been up and down this week with all the weather changes. The early part of the week the fishing was good and then the rain and wind came and slowed the bite for me. Thursday was back to normal and then last nite this very windy front came in and the temps went back down.

Robert Eidson
(2006-10-26 17:21:43)
[Lake Allatoona] Line sides Not much has change fishing is still on the slow side. But has pick up a little. With mid lake to the north end being the best place to look right now. With the cold nights we have had in the past few days. The water temp is down below 70. So we should start to see some good fishing real soon. Just remember the lake is all most turn over so itβs time to start pulling flat lines and planner boards. This will work best in the morning and afternoon. And during mid day try down lining in the mouth of the creeks. These fish are deeper right now then weeks past.

I wouldn't be surprised to be talking about freeze up within the next few weeks.

[Lake Allatoona] Line sides fishing this week has been the worst I have seen in a long time on Allatoona. They seem to be scattered from all the way up the river as far as Canton to as far South as Allatoona Creek. And to make it worst when you do find them they want eat. Nothing seems to be working. They just got lock jaw and want eat.

It was the same with walleye and white bass.

[Saginaw Bay] I did manage to get into the Hot Ponds one day for some bass, and on the Tittabawassee River one day trying for some early walleyes. Both trips turned out to be both fun and prosperous, with jigs and minnows being the enticement of choice. The pictures of both trips are posted with this report.

[Orlando] The last few days we have had runs out on Butler Chain, although we have had cooler nights and the waters have cooled down nicely, starting the day out with a surface temperature in the upper 70's, the bass have not turned on just yet. We have come across a lot of good sized schools running in 12 to 18 foot of water, but very little if any schooling action has been seen on the lakes we have been hitting.

[Lake Fork] Well, this has been a wild week. Cool fronts after another. The weather has been great this week except for the one day of rain and that was wonderful. We can't complain about rain with all the low water conditions. The long range forecast says it will be a wet winter. Great. Maybe this will get all our lakes full again. The fishing has been a little up and down with the temp swings.

[Lake Allatoona] Line-sides, Fishing is hit and miss right now. One day you can catch a doz. in and hour. Then on the next day do good to boat 4 or 5 the whole day. The lake is turning over right now. So the fish are still scatter from north to south. And up and down in the water column. Will the cold nights that we have been having I look for the lake to be completely turn over with in the next two weeks. And then the fishing should be on fire for line-sides.

Massive Cold Front Came Through by

[Brainerd] A massive cold front that swept through the Brainerd Lakes area had most anglers fixing deer stands or raking leaves. The anglers that did brave the wind and cold had minimal success battling the conditions, although some fish were caught. Before the cold front and during the full moon, the conditions were very favorable and had many anglers trolling crankbaits.
