[Carters Lake] Line sides fishing is Fair on Carters right now. Fish the same way this week as last. Trout are still the ticket early in the morning on Flat-lines and planner boards. But there is only about and hour window that this will work. Right at sun up. And then the bite does a 180 on us. They go DEEP real deep.

Lipless Crank and Spinner Baits In Staging Areas by
Jim Reaneau
(2007-02-15 06:55:34)
[Lake Fork] Fishing staging areas with lipless crank and spinner baits. Well, this week was a tough one for the fisherman. The air temps and strong winds have kept even the most avid fisherman on the trailer. The water temp has still held at the 44 to 49 degree mark. The fish are moving to the staging areas. This will be the pattern till the spawn starts. The fish will pull up on points and secondary points and as the water starts to move into the 50's they will scatter out over the flats and backs of the coves.

Yesterday we fished a half day (morning) and caught fish up to seven pounds. The lake is about two feet low and semi-clear. Right now I am fishing the hydrilla in about 2-8 foot of water.

[Lake Ontario] I know it's been awhile since I posted a report but with over 100 inches of snow on the ground there isn't a lot to talk about. I spend about all my time shoveling and snow blowing just waiting for the front end loader to show up and push it all back. Here is what our yard looks like.

[Lake Conroe] Many fishermen have been finding dead and dying fish in the Lake for several weeks. The fish have been identified as tilapia. I contacted Mark A.Webb, District Supervisor, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Bryan Inland Fisheries Office and he advised me that the fish were “blue tilapia” an illegally introduced exotic species that do not withstand cold temperatures.

Recent Cold Snap On Lake Fork by
Jim Reaneau
(2007-02-09 06:26:46)
[Lake Fork] Well, the warm weather we had earlier in the week was just GREAT. But the recent cold snap has brought us back to reality. The water temp has been around 43 to 46. It is according to where you are at the time. The North end and major creeks are still muddy to off color. For some reason the past week the Sabine opened a gate and let water out for a couple of days. We are now 2 foot low.

Winter Blast Still Here On Lake Fork by
Jim Reaneau
(2007-02-01 17:29:55)
[Lake Fork] Well, the winter blast is still on here at Lake Fork. The lake Is steadily inching up. BUT!!! The water temp is going down. 43 to 46 is the range you will be working with if you come down this weekend. This weekend is calling for another cold blast of artic air this weekend. I would recommend lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jigging spoons out deep.

Catch and Release Kills Stripers! by
Jay Jackson

[Lake Texoma] Catch and Release kills an estimated 1.3 million stripers a year. I am asked many times a year “when we catch our limit of stripers are we done”, I have always tried to explain the reasons why we shouldn't, and most people understand and agree that we have to protect the fish population not only for my livelihood but for our children and their children to come.

[Lake Allatoona] You can catch a big fish free lining big baits early in the morning. And the main points around the dam has been best for big fish. You want get a lot of bites but most will come from big fish. Trollers should be pulling Mack Farr umbrella rigs in the river channels during mid day. In the morning try pulling your rigs in water less then 20 feet deep and this includes shallow humps out in open water.

Using Lighter Lines and 4 Inch Worms Worked Best For Bass by
Don Mattern Sr.
(2007-01-24 10:45:44)
[Lake Fairfield] Fishing was tough today but after I scaled down to 4 inch worms and worked lighter lines caught about 20 bass up to 4.3 lbs. The bite is tough right now with Bass being very finicky due to the water changes but they can be caught. Use finesse worms like 4 inch watermelons rigged on lighter lines to have a great day. Just down size everything and you can get bit.
